Truly Short Story

A challenging exercise in writing is the hundred word story.  The idea is obvious - use exactly 100 words to tell a story.  You don't usually count title and 'the end.'  The hard part is to actually tell a full story with characters, conflict, and resolution.  Below is one of my better attempts; conflict is weak and resolution practically nonexistent, but it qualifies.  Feel like trying?  I'd love to see it.

Secrets

“Finally.”  Bette relaxed back into their bed.

“What?” called Rupert from the loo.

“Nothing, puddin’.”  Darn the man's hearing, she thought; just keep flossing.  “Feeling better.”  Under cover she helped the newborn joey into her pouch.

“Good.”  Rupert leaned into the hall and winked.  “I’m feeling lucky.”

Guilt pinched.  He’s darling, dangling floss or not.  How to tell him?

“Soon, beast,” she answered and rose to fix Rupert’s graveyard-shift breakfast, nightgown hiding her marsupial secret.

“Bloody fangs,” he muttered and resumed his secret nightly filing as kitchenette clatter filled the tiny flat.

the end
